Read about Grind Types

We have recently adjusted our grind options. With that in mind, we wanted to offer this primer so that you can choose the best grind-style for your preferred brewing method.

Whole Bean-- While we are happy to grind your beans, your coffee will stay fresher longer if you grind it as you go. There are many great home grinder options out there and many are surprisingly inexpensive.

Drip-- This is a medium grind that is the most versatile. Brewing methods using drip include home coffee drip machines, pour-overs (like Hario), Chemex, and AeroPress.

Espresso-- This grind is generally used for espresso makers. This includes home machines and stove-tip espresso pots. The grind is the most fine and is optimized to work with a high pressure extraction system.

Coarse-- Coarse is for percolators, french press, cold brewing, and sometimes AeroPress. Coarse is the biggest/loosest grind and enables water to move more freely steeping coffee for extraction.

All of the above, while generally true in the industry, also should be adjusted for preference. Feel free to experiment and please contact us if you have questions and we will be happy to work with you.

Product Overview

A powerful, dark-roast blend of coffees from Latin America, Africa and Indonesia. Critical Mass is a favorite of coffee drinkers who like something a little bold. It is notable for being both full-bodied and having a pronounced acidity.

We were inspired to use the term "Critical Mass" after participating in monthly bike rides in the Atlanta area- where hundreds of cyclists would fill the city streets for one evening.  But "Critical Mass" also refers to that important number of something that helps move, a project, business or movement along.  When you reach a "Critical Mass," something previously unattainable suddenly becomes viable. We find it to be a hopeful term that we have found ourselves using many times over the years. Perhaps one day, fair trade will have reached a "Critical Mass" of customers to where it becomes the norm in international business.

Available in a variety of grind options.

    Highly recommend

Bought this coffee from an organic shop in a small town. Didn’t expect much- and was pleasantly surprised with this delicious coffee. I’m now a subscriber! We use a French press and the smoothness and flavor is exceptional. I’ve been sending bags to my coffee drinking friends and now they are hooked, too.

A friend of mine from Georgia suggested the coffee and it is truly wonderful. Silky smooth and I cannot get enough. Thanks so much. This blend is out of sight. Brian Hearns

The Critical Mass coffee is so flippin' good and strong enough to remove the morning blahs and blurs.

I used to get this where I work. I tried other options and once you go Campesino, you can't go back!

A fantastic rich blend for your morning

Posted by CS in Atlanta on Aug 26th 2016

We've sampled a lot of blends looking for the something with that south american body, but more depth than a single origin from there. We love this blend for our first morning pot. If we have a second, we'll cut this blend with a lighter single origin for more depth but less punch. We have young twin boys, we could not make it through a morning without this in our house.
